Summary:
This book analyzes the defense policy of the Spanish Monarchy in the southern Atlantic, in Buenos Aires and the Río de la Plata, between 1734 and 1756. Its central focus is the frontier between the port city and the independent native societies that were territorially located to the south, in a context of tensions and conflicts that developed simultaneously on the River Plate and Atlantic flanks. The presence of rival monarchies to Spain - Portugal and England - allows the author to present the Atlantic horizon as a performative field of the defensive perception of the port city as a true key to the Viceroyalty of Peru.
