- In Ottoman political thought, political treatises written to guide sultans and viziers hold particular significance. These works emphasize the concept of justice while also addressing, from various perspectives, the set of rules that state officials must adhere to. In this context, the work Düstûrü’l-Vüzerâ, written by Alâî born Muhibbî eş-Şîrâzî (d. after 1559), one of the scholars of the era of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, provides us with important information about what the ideal vizier should be like. Translated into modern Turkish by Emrah Dokuzlu, this work consists of three main sections. The first section deals with the types of siyasetnâme, while the second section provides a detailed analysis of the work. The third and final section contains the critical text of Düstûrü’l-Vüzerâ.
