However, just two hundred years ago, the USA was merely a collection of 13 self-governing colonies under English rule on the American continent. It wasn't until after the Union's victory in the Civil War that the USA went through rapid industrialization and found enormous economic growth, in part thanks to a massive influx of opportunity-seeking immigrants.
