- Summary:
- Frieda, Joseph and Elizabeth Ehrenstein left Vienna on August 27, 1938 for Zurich, Switzerland, where they stayed until 1940. They eventually reached the USA via Portugal. Pauline Unger and her husband Samuel stayed in Vienna until their deportation to Theresienstadt, where they perished. Otto Unger, who lived in France, spent five years in Stalag X-B. The volume contains correspondence from the Ehrenstein and Unger families, especially letters from Frieda Ehrenstein to her brother Otto Unger and letters from Pauline Unger to her children Frieda Ehrenstein and Otto Unger. The letters from Pauline to her children discuss life in Nazi-occupied Austria and her attempts to emigrate.
