- Summary:
- From Mozart and Rossini to Massenet, Dvořák, and Strauss, composers throughout history have turned to the great canon of fairytale literature for inspiration. In 1893, Engelbert Humperdinck added his own enchanting masterpiece to this tradition with his fantastical adaptation of the story of Hansel and Gretel. In this radio broadcast of the Met's English-language version of the opera, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and soprano Aleksandra Kurzak star as the wayward title siblings, with mezzo-soprano Michaela Martens and baritone Dwayne Croft as their long-suffering parents, Gertrude and Peter. Tenor Robert Brubaker completes the principal ensemble as the child-hungry Witch, conducted by Maestro Robin Ticciati.
