Summary:
Grabbing hold of the listener from its very first bars and never letting go until its tragic conclusion, Il Trovatore tells the story of two rivals locked in a deadly feud--blind to the fact that they are, in actuality, long-lost brothers. In this gripping radio broadcast, tenor Marco Berti is Manrico, the titular troubadour, starring alongside baritone Alexey Markov as his foe, Count di Luna. Together, they battle for the affection of the noble Leonora, sung by soprano Angela Meade, with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe rounding out the principal quartet as Manrico's mother, Azucena. Maestro Daniele Callegari leads Verdi's charged masterpiece, which features a number of the composer's most beloved melodies, including the rousing Anvil Chorus.
Contents:
All'erta! all'erta!
Di due figli vivea padre beato - Abbietta zingara, fosca vegliarda
E il padre? Brevi e tristi giorni visse
Che più t'arresti?
Tacea la notte placida
Di tale amor
Tace la notte - Il Trovator! Io fremo! - Deserto sulla terra
Anima mia! - Ah! Dalle tenebre
No! Di geloso amor sprezzato
Vedi! Le fosche notturne (Anvil Chorus)
Stride la vampa!
Soli or siamo!
Condotta ell'era in ceppi
Non son tuo figlio?
Mal reggendo all'aspro assalto
L'usato messo Ruiz invia
Perigliarti ancor laguente
Tutto è deserto
Il balen del suo sorriso
Qual suono! Oh ciel! - Per me, ora fatale
Ah! Se l'error t'ingombra - Perchè piangete?
E deggio e posso oredelo?
Or co' dadi, ma fra poco
In braccio al mio rival!
Giorni poveri vivea - Deh! Rallentate, o barbari
Deh! Rallentate, o barbari
Quale d'armi fragor
Ah! Si, ben mio, coll'essere
L'onda de'suoni mistic
Di quella pira
Siam guinti: ecco la torre . . .Timor di me?
D'amor sull'ali rosee
Miserere
Dite! - Tu vedrai che amore in terra
Udiste? Come albeggi
Mira, di acerbe lagrime - Colui vivrà
Madre, non dormi?
Si, la stanchezza, m'opprime
Che! Non m'inganna quel floco lume?
Parlar non vuoi?
Ti scocta! . . .Prima che d'altri vivere.
