Summary:
Memoirs of a Jew born in Vilna in 1920. Chs. 2-6 (pp. 37-85) relate her experiences during the war, including Polish antisemitism before the war. After the Nazi occupation, her brother was murdered in Ponary. Mira managed to hide in the Vilna ghetto, but the rest of her family was deported and killed. She obtained a Lithuanian passport and moved to Rietava. Her life was saved thanks to several non-Jews, especially Jonas Jankauskas and Jonas Orenderaitis. After the war she taught in a Jewish orphanage and married Gustav Berger, a survivor from Austria. The Bergers first settled in Palestine; in 1954 they moved to the USA. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism).
