Summary:
Excerpt from introduction: "Much has changed since 1982 when the Vernacular Architecture Forum pushed into print a thick and homegrown-looking volume entitled Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture. The book contained a selection of papers and abstracts from the Forum's first two annual meetings and was a response, as editor Camille Wells noted, to the 'deepening interest and expanding focus' of vernacular architecture studies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Perspectives, like the Vernacular Architecture Forum itself, argued forcefully for the inclusion of ordinary buildings in the study and preservation of American architecture and material culture."
