Summary:
This biography of Juan José Paso rescues the figure of one of Argentina’s most overlooked yet influential patriots of the Independence era. Paso, a lawyer, teacher, and statesman, played decisive roles in the Cabildo Abierto of May 22, 1810, the Primera Junta, the Junta Grande, the Triumvirates, and as secretary of the Congress of Tucumán during the Declaration of Independence. Unlike military leaders or caudillos, Paso embodied moderation, civic courage, and rational political leadership. With archival research and narrative clarity, the book reconstructs his life, from his childhood in colonial Buenos Aires to his pivotal interventions in the founding institutions of the Argentine Republic, positioning him as a key architect of national independence.
