Two of the biggest multiplex operators in India, INOX and PVR, released a joint media statement on March 27, 2022, announcing the merger of the companies. At the time of the merger, both INOX and PVR were public companies and were listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India. The merged company is known in India as the Resultant Company. The merger was a consequence of losses brought on by the pandemic and an attempt to combat the difficulties faced by the cinema exhibition industry due to the advent of over-the-top (OTT) platforms (that is, those that provide content delivered online). Using the strengths of both companies and providing users with exceptional customer service are the main goals of the merged company. Additionally, the Resultant Company hopes to boost the pace of expansion in Tier 2 (medium size) and Tier 3 (small) cities and make the business more efficient by combining the synergies of the two companies.
