- Summary:
- This case study delves into the challenges faced by Faircode Technologies in rolling out the BevQ app, a virtual queue management system developed for the Kerala State Beverages Corporation Ltd. during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. In response to the closure of beverage outlets and bars in March 2020 to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Kerala sought to address the concerns of the state's substantial beverage-consuming populace and mitigate the economic fallout from lost beverage sales. Consequently, the development of a virtual queue-based application was entrusted to Faircode Technologies, a fledgling startup based in Cochin, India. The app was designed to enable customers to pre-book slots for purchasing liquor, thereby facilitating better queue management at the beverage outlets.Despite initial praise for the government's initiative, Faircode Technologies encountered difficulties following the application's delayed release, attributed to various technical and administrative hurdles. Furthermore, the app garnered mixed reviews from consumers due to issues pertaining to legality, network connectivity, and data accuracy. This case study aims to examine the events leading up to the app's launch and the swift measures undertaken by Faircode Technologies in the aftermath, as seen through the lens of the company's CTO.
