Summary:
Roshan Shah owns an accounting business called Darpan Enterprises, which was started by his father, Bhavesh Shah, in the late 1980s. During the startup stage, Bhavesh hired many people from his close-knit religious network, the Jain community. Since every employee in the firm practiced Jainism, the workplace culture strongly aligned with Jain values and traditions. This included refraining from eating meat and seafood. As the company grew, people from various religions and cultural backgrounds joined Darpan, including meat-eating and pescetarian employees. Nonetheless, the company's no-meat policy continued, prohibiting staff from bringing meat products into the office. The food at the office's social gatherings was always vegetarian, much to the discontent of Darpan's meat-eating employees, who felt that the company exercised control over what they chose to eat. How can Roshan honor the personal beliefs and preferences of his employees without violating his own cultural and religious norms?
