- Summary:
- Important note: This case study, and the new company described (Newington Automotive), are fictitious. Any similarity to any real company is coincidental. The locations of rail terminals mentioned are genuine, and details are based on publicly available sources. No representation is made regarding services which the operators of any facility may or may not wish to provide.Newington Automotive is a fictitious new company, which will build upmarket electric cars. They wish to use rail freight, rather than road freight, to support the whole of their supply chain, as they believe this will help to establish their green credentials. This will include transport of finished cars, components for production, and spare parts for the aftermarket. But first they must assess the feasibility of this plan. In this case study, students will be tasked with producing a feasibility report. This will identify the elements of the supply chain for which rail might realistically be used, and how.
