Summary:
In May 2010, during the Chicago Blackhawks' chase for their first Stanley Cup since 1961, 27-year-old video coach Brad Aldrich allegedly sexually assaulted 20-year-old hockey player John Doe. Despite being aware of the alleged assault soon after it occurred, the Blackhawks' senior management failed to address it. This case, which describes the events that a 2021 independent investigation uncovered, invites students to critically analyze the Blackhawks' response to the allegation-specifically, the factors that led to management's inaction. Students will examine complex ethical issues through this case study and discuss alternative ways the Blackhawks' senior management could have responded to the assault.
