- Summary:
- This case highlights the problems faced by Ram Manohar, sales manager with Greenknit India, in delivering desired business growth in Rajasthan state, western India, in 2024. M/S Ratna Garments Limited (RGL) was Greenknit's sole distributor for many years, having high-cost structures and accounts receivables of INR 20 million (approximately equal to USD 240,000). Manohar's boss, Raj Sehgal, wanted 10% sales growth in Rajasthan in 2024, and suggested three options for Manohar: (1) revive the business with RGL; (2) curtail RGL's territory and operations by appointing one additional distributor in Rajasthan; or (3) terminate RGL and appoint a new distributor for Rajasthan. Each option had advantages and disadvantages, and Manohar needed to decide on one that would be approved by Sehgal, would maximize Greenknit's sales in the short and long term, would minimize potential financial losses and litigation-related complications, and could be implemented without sacrificing his efforts in the rest of his territories. Students will be asked to interpret the financial figures, critically evaluate the different distribution options being considered, and recommend the best course of action for Greenknit.
