- Summary:
- In May 2025, WeightWatchers International (WW), an American company promoting better health via programs for weight loss and dieting, filed for bankruptcy. The company enjoyed a long reign of success since 1963 as its services were very popular amongst people who wanted to lose weight easily. However, due to the increased use of weight loss medications like Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro, users stopped subscribing to the services of WW and the company accumulated approximately USD 1.5 billion in debt, leading to annual interest payments of around USD 100 million. This case analyses how WW failed to read trends in the industry which led to financial losses and what steps they might undertake to continue to stay in business.
