In 2025, Nestlé admitted that one of its subsidiaries, Perrier-a packaged water manufacturer-used unnatural methods to purify its water which were against European Union regulations. An investigation revealed that even officials of Macron's administration were aware of these malpractices which raised questions about the integrity of the French government.
