AAA Agro Village (AAV) is a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) in the cattle industry located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It started its journey in 2018 with the objective of selling indigenous beef cattle. The founders of AAV were very optimistic about the growth potential of their business of selling beef cattle to local butchers, community centers, and the general public in Bangladesh, where beef is the most popular meat and also an excellent source of nutrition. However, due to a variety of challenges--including those presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent war, the dollar crisis, and price increases of cattle feed--AAV had to change its business objectives to remain profitable and survive in the market. This case highlights the challenges faced by AAV during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The case also highlights why some of the company founders left the organization. How did Mr. Masum Amin, the managing director of AAV, overcome the challenges and turn the business into a profitable and successful beef and milk business? Students will be asked to evaluate the prospects of the cattle industry in Bangladesh and challenges that will face the industry in the future.
