- Summary:
- In the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a great deal of news coverage about how Quebec's health network was having difficulty in procuring personal protective equipment. The province of Quebec in Canada was not the only governmental entity in this situation--almost all industrialized countries were facing a similar challenge. However, against a highly turbulent backdrop, one health institution in Quebec managed to endure the crisis with relatively few repercussions: the Centre hospitalier universitaire (CHU) Sainte-Justine. The logistics managers at the hospital were able to make strategic decisions before and during the crisis that significantly mitigated the impact of equipment shortages. Students will be reminded of the events associated with the management of personal protective equipment during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the experience of a single hospital--the CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal--students are asked to evaluate the best practices implemented during this difficult period. Finally, they will evaluate how these practices can be transposed to the entire public health network in the province of Quebec.
