- Summary:
- Mark, Satish, and Lakshmi are the three founders of an organization named IntelSys. The organization provides a software application that provides a platform for connecting several stakeholders in the housing market. The firm is experiencing good growth in revenue but is facing problems in maintaining employee morale and commitment. Mark learns that the current state of neurotechnology enables monitoring of brain waves as a means to measure employee attention. He consults with his co-founders on the ethicality and feasibility of monitoring brain waves in their organization. Although the literature suggests that a Theory Y leadership style is more suitable for cognitively intensive work, the case study illustrates how modern technology might help implement a Theory X leadership style for knowledge workers. Students will be asked to analyze the impact of new technology in improving the effectiveness of surveillance and to formulate policies that balance organizational productivity requirements with employee privacy concerns.
