- Summary:
- In April 2020, Professor Nithya Natarajan reviewed her investments in the shares of Future Retail Ltd, a leading retailer operating multiple retail formats in both the value and lifestyle retail segments in India. To Nithya's dissatisfaction, Future Retail's share values had fallen steeply since she invested in the company in 2019. Nithya had accumulated shares of Future Retail, which made up 21% of her portfolio. She then watched prices fall further due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nithya examined the company's financial indicators using "red flag analysis" to predict the future of her investment and also the potential behavioral biases that had caused her to continue to invest in Future Retail. By solving the case, the students will be able to identify potential red flags in the company and behavioral biases faced by the investor while investing in it.
