Summary:
The lockdown following the outbreak of the COVID-19 disease affected people in a variety of ways. Two years into the pandemic, as case numbers have decreased, retrospective reflection provides an opportunity to assess our behaviors and actions during the unanticipated times. The events described in this case took place during the first lockdown of 2020 and offers an analysis of citizen-administration collaboration that helped the city of Ranchi, India, manage two emerging and complex challenges related to the lockdown: coping with hunger and provisioning health workers with safety gear. Students will be asked to reflect upon their own experiences of the challenges that emerged during COVID-19. Furthermore, they are also encouraged to think about the nature of leadership that emerges to solve these complex challenges.
