- Summary:
- This case aims to delve into the multifaced challenges surrounding drinking water poverty in developing nations such as Bangladesh. The dearth of safe drinking water and associated poverty have far-reaching impacts on communities. This case explores a company called Drinkwell's unique water ATM service, which makes use of the 4A approach--acceptability, affordability, accessibility, and awareness--to provide access to essential clean drinking water services for urban communities. Drinkwell is a U.S.-based social enterprise dedicated to clean water solutions. Students will be asked to evaluate the effectiveness and equity of water ATM booths in addressing drinking water poverty in Bangladesh by applying the 4A framework. They will analyze whether the current deployment of water ATMs sufficiently meets the needs of different socioeconomic groups and then propose strategies to enhance the service's inclusivity and sustainability. Additionally, students will apply business concepts such as market segmentation, pricing strategies, and stakeholder engagement to develop a comprehensive plan for scaling water ATMs to underserved areas while ensuring operational sustainability and community acceptance.
