Summary:
Coffee retail in India has witnessed significant growth in recent years, with a mix of international and domestic players contributing to the thriving coffee culture. Tim Hortons is a global iconic Canadian coffee and donut brand established in 1964. With more than 5,100 restaurants worldwide, it continued accelerating its international presence with an entry into India. Tim Hortons entered India in 2022, opening its first store in the National Capital Region. The company's strategy is to widen its presence in India, with 120 stores in India by 2026. More than increasing store footprint, the company focuses on ensuring excellent customer service, affordable experiences, and good product quality. Although there were numerous opportunities in India's rapidly growing coffee industry, Tim Hortons entered the market later than international brands Starbucks and Café Coffee Day and many local coffee suppliers. In this situation, how should the CEO of Tim Hortons India, Tarun Jain, navigate the Indian market dynamics to position and scale up Tim Hortons' presence effectively? Students will be asked to undertake a SWOT analysis of Tim Hortons and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different entry modes available to multinational corporations when they expand abroad. Students will also be asked to suggest how Tim Hortons can successfully compete in India, to devise strategies to grow in the future.
