- Summary:
- This case study demonstrates the application of the Distribution Resource Planning (DRP) approach to managing the inventory and supply of one medicinal product in a two-echelon channel, in which distribution is carried out from the finished goods warehouse (FGW) in the manufacturing plant to two distribution centers (DCs). After years of tension and systemic challenges in supply planning, distribution and production managers are creating a new inventory replenishment organization to improve customer service and reduce logistics costs. Students will be asked to participate in the overall process of centralized decision-making to replenish inventory in the DCs and the FGW in the role of distribution planner. This will reveal the process of transforming demand forecasts into gross requirements, the DRP application algorithm, and the need to link the data in the distribution plan to those in the production plan.
