- Summary:
- Under typical circumstances, executives in organizations are focused on leading people and managing the processes to meet their business objectives and avoid legal liabilities. However, executives often find themselves in the crosshairs of internal organizations' operations and external social and political events, forcing them to make decisions that might have different legal consequences. Although executives may face a different legal system depending on their country, the complexity of legal processes and structure and the unexpected external social or political events will force them to make decisions about cases with equity and legal ramifications. One such incident was the death of George Floyd, a Black man, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, at the hands of White police. The event illustrates how external issues may impact equity policies in organizations based on an organizational justice framework. Students will be asked to analyze the impact of external social or political issues on their organization's equity policies and determine the optimal course of action to mitigate legal liabilities.
