- Summary:
- The present case analyzes the governance framework of non-government organizations (NGOs) at a global level. It discusses in particular the organizational structure, operations, financing, and internal accounting and reporting of an NGO regarding its governance system. Accountability and transparency are identified as the two core tenets of governance. Accountability refers to standing by the decisions made by the board, whereas transparency-the most practical principle-refers to reporting and disclosing all relevant information, including financial statements. Students will be asked to examine the governance effectiveness of CCO, a fictional entity, for the stakeholders to help ensure its future growth and success. This assumes material significance particularly in the light of current global awareness about corporate governance of this third sector. Students will also be asked to deliberate on and recommend the optimal governance structure of an NGO in the context of CCO, along with the added dimensions of financial discipline and internal controls.
