Summary:
Jenna met with her case study writing mentor, Kelsey, one of the heads at Jenna's college, who had guided Jenna's first case. Kelsey proposed adding her name as a co-author to Jenna's first case study. Jenna was surprised and wondered what to say. Kelsey was another professor, coordinator, and contributor to many activities at the college. As a full-time employee, Kelsey needed publications, so Jenna believed this request was purely for her sake and not an effort to help her paper gain a more significant readership. Kelsey had not participated at all in the case except for guidance. Jenna also felt afraid that because Kelsey was connected to all the chairs, she might ruin Jenna's reputation as a good teacher in the same college. All that Jenna had built over the previous years might get destroyed. She wondered, Is this usual? Would Jenna have the option to say "no"? Would Kelsey accept her response lightly, or would the consequences of this decision jeopardize Jenna's work? What if Jenna agreed to add Kesley's name to the case? Would Kelsey add her name as co-author to imply they both contributed equal amounts? Would this align with academic integrity?Jenna was shocked by Kelsey's guts in making such a request. The way Kelsey had looked at Jenna while making her offer, with her eyes round and opened widely, added to the surprise. Jenna felt humiliated by the request because she was a part-timer and had no power. After Kelsey made her suggestion, Jenna gathered herself and decided to give herself time to think about her response. Jenna acted normally and focused on Kelsey's feedback on her case until the session time allotted was finished.
