Summary:
There are certain professions in which work-life balance can exist, but it is not necessarily realistic if you are truly productive at your job. While numerous positions in the medical industries require staff to be on call, public affairs can be a forgotten field that can have similar situations. This business case centers around Paul, who works as a one-person public affairs office for a city school system. Despite the school year recently coming to a close, Paul is still receiving plenty of media requests and attention, which requires him to constantly focus his time at home on work. His wife is not thrilled. As Paul works through a holiday, a Saturday, and a personal leave day that was intended to take his young children on a field trip, he finds himself soul-searching while facing the reality of role stressors involved with public affairs. He wants to spend more time being intentionally involved with his family. However, he still has a job to do. Students will learn the importance of strategically applying work-life balance during times of high stress.
