- Summary:
- The case addresses the challenges faced by Tonya Hicks, founder and CEO of Atlanta-based Power Solutions Inc. (Power Solutions), an electric services provider. Hicks was able to excel in the male-dominated construction industry. By 2023, Hicks grew her business based on sustainability and inclusivity as critical principles. She provided solar energy installation services and electric vehicle (EV) chargers. She also trained women in trade skills through her training academy. The Inflation Reduction Act, introduced by Joseph R. Biden Jr., the 46th U.S. President, increased the need for electrical engineers and created a severe supply-demand gap, which further fueled Hicks' aspirations. Experts believe the industry could reduce this gap by adding more women to the trade profession. This case will encourage students to examine reasons for Hicks' diversification solely in sustainable and inclusive businesses and also explore how Hicks can help women gain employment in nontraditional male-dominated industries.
