- Summary:
- This case study allows students to step into the role of a forensic partner at Emily, Afton, & Company PLLC (EAC), a boutique forensic accounting firm in Boulder, Colorado. A professional limited liability company (PLLC) is a business entity that provides business owners in licensed occupations with personal asset protection; however, this entity is only recognized in some states. In March 2023, the firm received a call from Duncan Templeton, a partner at T&M Law Associates (T&M), requesting a meeting with his client Henry Wanders and Byron Oracle, the CFO of Wanders Company ("Wanders Co" or the "Company"), to discuss potential fraud occurring in the company. Wanders Company is a locally owned instrument manufacturing and distribution company that sells everything from guitars and banjos to custom amplifiers and guitar pedals. In addition, Wanders Company also performs instrument repairs and upgrades, custom instrument orders, instrument insurance, and contracts distribution responsibilities with larger companies like Fender and Marshall. Students will use their analytic skills to determine whether fraudulent activity exists in the Wanders Company and provide a response in the examination report.
