Summary:
Work is a key component of human life. It organizes an individual’s activity during their life, helps define their identity, and holds a specific place in the hierarchy of values of an individual. It is prophylactic, educational, and therapeutic in nature. Work can be described through specific features of vocational tasks, labour environments or trades. It has multiple roles at various stages of human life and in diversified situations in which humans function. Thus, work is such a category of human activity that requires both theoretical analyses and multidirectional and interdisciplinary studies of individuals/societies in relation to work. This publication is a collection of papers, theoretical-and-review analyses as well as contributory literature produced following various methodological paradigms. A direct inspiration for this publication came from a session of the 9th Poland’s Pedagogical Convention, organized by the Polish Pedagogical Society and the Faculty of Educational Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University that was held in Poznań between 20 and 22 September 2022, as part of the section entitled Labour Market, Vocational Career and Educational Function of Work – Towards a Society of the Future. The papers in this collection fall into two subject areas. In the first area, the authors focus on problems experienced by young people and young adults who prepare to enter, are entering and have entered the labour market, particularly concentrating on their co-existence in the generational context. In the second area, issues such as philosophy of work, diversified vocational careers, specific characteristics of work in different professions, environments and life stages are discussed
