In 2025, humanity finds itself at one of the most chaotic, unstable, and dangerous times since the end of World War II. The global governance structures created some 80 years ago rather prematurely proclaimed to have defeated fascism under the aegis of the United Nations and the UN Charter. These structures have been fundamental in preventing another global conflict and have facilitated immense developmental strides, reductions in extreme poverty and unprecedented improvements in health and education. However, as is evidenced from current political and social events across the world, the foundations on which the international order have been built are in crisis. Whether the emergence of authoritarian governments, the dramatic and worsening economic inequality within and between nations or the rapidly worsening effects of climate change, the present structures of global governance and the very elements of which this system is built - nation states - are proving incapable of structurally addressing the challenges facing the people of the world.
