Summary:
"This book serves as the foundation of equipping clinicians with the necessary knowledge to provide gender-affirming care to the transgender community while in their studies, as opposed to after their studies. Whether it is trans-specific terminology, use of gender-affirming garments, gender affirming hormone therapy and its effects on the gender diverse person, gender-affirming surgeries and complications, laboratory values, curriculum integration, etc. such universal constructs can be implemented across a variety of disciplines to aide in the mitigation of the health inequities and disparities this population faces daily. TRANSforming Nursing Education informs clinicians regarding the importance of providing gender affirming care, but also equip them with the necessary knowledge needed to do so. Training for gender-sensitive care should occur at the forefront of educational settings and continue throughout one's clinical profession. Within healthcare, there is an understanding of the implementation of didactic knowledge into the clinical setting and there is a warranted need to expand our current thinking, language, and terminology of the dichotomy of male and female within healthcare curriculums. The health care community is as diverse as the diverse communities they serve, and it is important that clinicians continue to evolve to meet the needs of such communities - this starts at the curricular level of all health professions."
