Summary:
"As in the Otis Redding song, a man retreats to the bay to read and breathe the sea breeze. From there, he revisits a series of stories and events. The question of father and son, stemming from an encounter with an old immigrant; a duel between an anarchist writer and an escapist author; a profound reflection on coded languages: that of state bureaucracy, that of the underworld, that of the poem. There seems to be a kinship between the dark, encrypted language of power and the language of the poem. The poem is an explosion, a Poundean vortex, a concentration of energy, a pressure cooker, or that serene inner power of haiku, as occurs, for example, in the moment when a Patronato saleswoman places a cashmere scarf on the protagonist, a scene of sensuality as elegant and profound as the sea, the seagulls, and the wind, which become a balm, a refuge where social wounds seem, at least for a moment, to heal."-- Translation of back cover.
