Other Title:
Silence equals death : vote
Summary:
VOTE represents a downward facing American flag overlayed with a pink triangle.
Notes:
The poster was designed in 1988 to encourage participation in the US presidential election and raise awareness about the presidential candidates's approaches to combat the AIDS epidemic. The pink triangle was used in Nazi Germany to identify LGBTQ people and later was reclaimed as a sign of support. The Silence=Death Project was the work of a six-person collective in New York City: Avram Finkelstein, Brian Howard, Oliver Johnston, Charles Kreloff, Chris Lione, and Jorge Soccarás.
"The issue is AIDS ... where do the candidates stand on treatment research, housing, healthcare, discrimination! Your vote is a weapon... use it ... we are at war."
