- 《日本國志》四十卷，分十二志，是黄遵憲使日期間在廣泛收集日本歷史和現狀資料的基礎上，經十多年編纂而成的志書，全面、系統地記述日本的歷史。本書特别着重介紹日本轉向學習西方資本主義國家的做法，實行明治維新，進行政治、經濟、軍事、思想、文化方面的革新，國家由弱變强的現狀，寄托着作者希望中國朝野上下仿效日本學習西法、實行維新改革、實現富國强兵的理想。本次整理以光緒二十四年（1898）上海圖書集成印書局印本爲底本，并加以新式標點分段，是本書的首次標點整理。
