Summary:
"Nadia Myre: Waves of Want Renowned for her rich and diverse practice, interdisciplinary artist Nadia Myre weaves personal and political narratives around Indigenous identity, both current and historical. Nadia Myre: Waves of Want looks at Myre's artistic and critical process over the past two decades, including exciting new works recently created in France. Navigating complex histories of nationhood and memory, her work fosters profound dialogues on collective identity, resilience, and the politics of belonging. Myre confronts viewers with the experiences of Indigenous peoples and those who "settled" here, mapping mutual exchanges, distortions, oppression, and adaptations over time and place. Featuring more than sixty works from multiple collections, Waves of Want sparks reflection and dialogue on how we confront our histories through art. Given that these ways are often fragmented, and always in transition and translation, this dialogue combines materiality, mark-making, and the impact of imperfect and incomplete communication."--National Gallery of Canada description of the exhibition.
