Con el presente estudio se pretende ofrecer una descripción explicativa de la antroponimia asturiana medieval registrada desde los más antiguos documentos en lengua romance hasta los inicios de la Edad Moderna, atendiendo básicamente a dos aspectos: el sistema onomástico (es decir, los mecanismos de transmisión de los nombres personales y familiares) y el repertorio de formas antroponímicas en uso durante la Edad Media, cuyo estudio incluye tanto su análisis estrictamente lingüístico, como otros aspectos de índole cultural, antropológica o religiosa relacionados con cada una de las formas, así como su particular cronología en Asturias, su proceso de difusión, sus períodos de mayor vigencia todo ella sustentado en información estadística obtenida de un corpus de más de veinte mil personas registradas en la totalidad de los diplomas medievales ya publicados pertenecientes a los años 1200-1500.

This study aims at offering an explicatory description of the medieval Asturian anthroponymy from the very first romance documents up to the dawn of the Modern Ages, basically following two aspects: the onomastic system and the repertoire of anthroponymic forms which existed during the Middle Ages, the study of which includes both the strictly linguistic analysis as such and the analysis of the cultural, the anthropological and the religious aspects related to each of the forms, as well as their particular chronology in Asturias, their process of diffusion, their period of utmost use, all of which is based on statistical information obtained from a corpus of over 20,000 people registered in medieval diplomas published between 1200-1500.
