- Sarah Ertl (Dr. phil.), Politik-, Sprach- und Medienwissenschaftlerin, lebt und forscht in Innsbruck und Brüssel. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Frame-, Diskurs- und Medienanalyse sowie Partizipationsforschung.
- Summary:
- Die mediale Inszenierung von Protest ist sowohl Zeichen der Ausgewogenheit demokratischer Teilhabe als auch Manifestation gesellschaftlicher Machtstrukturen. Die Medien dienen den Protestgruppen als Tor zur Aufmerksamkeit breiter Öffentlichkeiten. Allerdings kann bereits das sprachliche Framing in der Berichterstattung Protest marginalisieren oder kriminalisieren. Sarah Ertl geht (den Implikationen) der Protestberichterstattung in ihrer demokratischen Einbettung anhand verschiedener Case Studies nach. Dabei gerät neben dem Graswurzel-Protest auch das Phänomen des »Astroturfings« – das Lancieren von vermeintlichem Graswurzel-Protest durch profitorientierte Organisationen – in den Fokus.

- The medial representation of protests is both a symbol of the equity of democratic participation and a manifestation of societal power structures. For the protesters, the media serve as a gateway to broad public attention. But just the language used in the reports can already marginalize or criminalize protest. Sarah Ertl investigates the (implications of) protest reporting in its democratic foundations along different case studies. She also focuses on the phenomenon of »astroturfing« – for-profit organizations launching supposedly grassroots protest.
