Christoph Martin Wieland’s eight-volume prose translation of 22 Shakespeare dramas appeared in Zurich between 1762 and 1766. It was a pioneering linguistic and literary achievement. The first volume of this edition contains the original preface by Alexander Pope and the German translations of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and King Lear, along with their draft versions.
In den Jahren 1762 bis 1766 erscheint in Zürich Christoph Martin Wielands achtbändige Prosaübersetzung von insgesamt 22 Shakespeare-Dramen, eine sprachliche und literarische Pionierleistung. Der erste Textband der vorliegenden Edition enthält, der Originalausgabe folgend, Alexander Pope’s Vorrede zu seiner Ausgabe sowie die deutschsprachigen Fassungen von A Midsummer Night’s Dream und King Lear mit den jeweiligen Vorlagen im Paralleldruck.
