- Summary:
- This is the fourth volume in the Hypnotism in Victorian and Edwardian Era Fiction series, published by Themes & Settings in Fiction Press. In addition to short stories and novels about hypnotism, which were highly popular in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, a less known and less appreciated subset of stories involved women characters having hypnotic powers. Included in the volume are fourteen short tales about female hypnotists; some written by notable authors and others by authors less known today, yet popular in their time. Several of the stories included in The Female Hypnotist initially appeared in fairly obscure newspapers and journals, but it is hoped that their reappearace here will prove to be of value to modern readers and researchers.
