Summary:
In this video, Drs. Jay Lebow and Jessica Borelli discuss relational savoring, a psychotherapeutic approach designed by Dr. Borelli that addresses emotional well-being, interpersonal relationships, and mental health. In addition, they discuss the theoretical underpinnings, as well as the evidence base, for this approach. At the end of the opening interview, Dr. Borelli introduces a client with whom she applies relational savoring. In the session, Dr. Borelli introduces the client to this approach and explores what brings him into therapy. The client shares that his primary concern is his parenting relationship with his son. After a brief mindfulness exercise, Dr. Borelli inquires about the client's family relations and, key to the intervention, asks him for two core attachment-related memories. She invites him to sit with those memories and asks him a series of guided questions in order to help achieve two goals: to feel more connected to his son and to increase his ability to mentalize his son's state of mind. Finally, in the following discussion, Drs. Lebow and Borelli discuss the clip, including the application of Relational Savoring and Dr. Borelli's experience of the session
