- Summary:
- In this session, Dr. Diane Sanford works with a client who is seeking therapy after experiencing postpartum depression. At the beginning of the session, Dr. Diane Sanford explores each of the client's three pregnancy experiences, which included an ectopic pregnancy and an emergency c-section. She also asks the client about any rituals to remember a baby lost in the second pregnancy. Subsequently, Dr. Diane Sanford explores the client's relationship with her husband, including how she felt towards him and the division of labor in the home after the second pregnancy as well as now. She also explores in more depth the client's first postpartum experience during her first pregnancy. To provide the client with some immediate strategies to cope with postpartum symptoms, Dr. Diane Sanford suggests the client affirm positive aspects of how she takes care of her children. Dr. Diane Sanford also validates the client's efforts as a mother and normalizes her experiences with those of herself as well as other clients with whom she has worked. Finally, the session concludes with Dr. Diane Sanford thanking the client for participating in the session.
