Summary:
In this video, Dr. Steven D. Hollon demonstrates his approach to cognitive therapy for depression through the lens of a virtual environment. Cognitive therapy for depression is a cognitive-behavioral-affective intervention that encourages patients to use their own behaviors to test the accuracy of their beliefs in the service of resolving their affective distress. Watch as Dr. Hollon works through interventions with the client, including but not limited to examining the context of childhood antecedents and how the core beliefs developed, the exploration of the therapeutic relationship or how the patient thinks and feels about the therapist in the working context, as well as helping the client understand the unlearning of compensatory strategies and safety behaviors. During the demonstration, Dr. Hollon works with a male client struggling with mood, feelings of low self-worth, and what appeared to be the loss of his ability to do the things he used to love to do. During the interview, Dr. Hollon discusses with host, Dr. Robert DeRubeis. This session features clients portrayed by actors on the basis of a composite of different cases
