Summary:
"In this brief demonstration, Martyn Whittingham, PhD, meets with a shy and reserved client as part of an initial pre-group preparation session. The client presents with anxiety and difficulty with socializing in interpersonal relationships. After gathering information on the client's history, Dr. Martyn Whittingham examines the client's interest in pursuing group therapy with other group members who similarly struggle with interpersonal relationships. The client expresses initial hesitation and resistance to group therapy as a treatment option, which Dr. Martyn Whittingham responds to. Dr. Martyn Whittingham incorporates interpersonal interviewing, assessments, and goal calibration to establish goal and task agreement in session. In the end, Dr. Martyn Whittingham and the client develop a list of goals and discuss how group therapy may assist with the client's presenting concerns. The demonstration in this video features a client portrayed by an actor on the basis of a composite of cases"
