- Summary:
- In this initial session, Dr. Pamela Hays works with a young Indian man in his late 20's presenting with interpersonal stressors. Dr. Hays explores significant aspects of the client's background with particular focus on his recent breakup and complex relationship with his mother. The client describes stress related to guilt, meeting expectations, and fulfilling family duties. The client and therapist discuss his needs for social connection following the pandemic and his struggles to communicate with his mother effectively. Dr. Hays encourages the client to consider which are helpful and which are unhelpful ways of thinking. At the conclusion, the therapist and client identify goals, such as practicing kinder self-talk, to help the client navigate challenging interpersonal relationships. This video features a client portrayed by an actor on the basis of a composite of cases.
