- Summary:
- In this session, Dr. Sheila A.M. Rauch works with her patient using prolonged exposure (PE) therapy to help him process his trauma memories from a military incident in which he shot a child. At the beginning of the session, Rauch identifies social supports (attending church and AA meetings) and discusses homework progress with the patient. Rauch reminds the patient of the purpose of PE, and they both agree on goals for this session, which include going through the trauma memory several times (imaginal exposure). About every five minutes, Rauch assesses the patient's Subjective Units of Distress (SUDS), which fluctuate over the session. After three rounds of imaginal exposure, Rauch assigns the patient homework for the week to aid in reducing his PTSD symptoms, which include listening to his imaginal exposure recording. This video features a client portrayed by an actor on the basis of a composite of cases
