- Summary:
- Therapist Dr. Thomas L. Sexton works with a family of four, two sisters, a mother, and a father. After he introduces himself and orients his clients to the session, they introduce themselves and their challenges. They discuss family dynamics, including mom and dad's qualms with their teenage daughters that they are "disrespectful" and "entitled." The therapist validates the parents' concerns, and challenges them to consider their daughters' behavior in the context of the upbringing the parents provided for them (as opposed to the parents' harsher childhoods). Dr. Sexton facilitates exploration of all of the clients' feelings regarding familial conflicts, for instance, the daughters perceiving the other as being favored by the parents. The therapist affirms the family's efforts to communicate effectively with one another, and encourages them to continue prioritizing solving these problems with a newfound awareness of one another's concerns
