Summary:
Dr. Anthony Chambers meets with Lori for an individual session as part of the four-session evaluation model for couple therapy. He describes the purpose of the session and sets expectations that information will be shared in the subsequent joint couple sessions. Dr. Chambers reviews the couple's concern of infidelity discussed in the joint first session. He expresses empathy to Lori and asks her to describe her experience of finding out about the infidelity. They explore the couple's relationship dynamic and patterns of intimacy. Dr. Chambers then spends time gathering information about Lori's mental and physical health history and family background. After gaining an understanding of Lori's childhood experiences, Dr. Chambers transitions to inquiring about the other concern identified in the first joint couple session: finances. He goes on to explore the division of labor within the marriage and the overall structure of the family. Finally, Dr. Chambers asks about Lori's goals for couple therapy; he assesses her level of commitment to the marriage and desires to either leave or keep working on the relationship. He ends the session by expressing empathy and hope to Lori and reiterating the structure of the four-session evaluation. The client in this video is portrayed by an actor on the basis of a composite of cases
